Recognizing that musicians often develop unique medical problems that can be devastating to their musical abilities and careers, the UH Neurological Institute established the Center for Music & Medicine. Clinical trials, specialized equipment and innovative treatment options make UH Case Medical Center uniquely qualified to correctly diagnose and manage music-related injuries.
The center is dedicated to promoting healing and improving the lives of patients, enhancing research and discovery of the neurological foundations of music, and communicating these discoveries to patients, students and professional audiences.
The center is a collaboration between University Hospitals Case Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University Through coordinated efforts in patient care, research, teaching and technology development, we are focused on pioneering new discoveries involving the intersection of music and medicine.
Our goals include:
- Advancing knowledge of the neurological foundations of music.
- Improving understanding of the effects of music on the body.
- Treating patients through music and the arts.
- Serving as a resource of medical treatment for musicians with injuries.
- Developing technology that enhances intellectual growth, brain recovery and health through music.
