Leading the Way in Minimally Invasive Neurosurgical Advances

Our physician-researchers have been at the forefront of developing new, minimally invasive therapies and technologies to treat brain and spinal cord tumors. Center benchmarks:

  • Our lab features a Virtual Reality Surgical Simulator: the “flight simulator for the brain”, the only such technology in the region.
  • The UH Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery team was first in the region to implement MR / OR: Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which enables surgeons to determine the extent of a tumor while the patient is undergoing surgery and ensure its accurate removal.
  • We have assumed an international leadership role in minimally invasive (endoscopic) neurosurgery.
  • UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital houses a one-of-a-kind minimally invasive neurosurgery lab, which focuses on developing new instruments and operative approaches, as well as teaching new surgical techniques.
