Because of UH Doctors, I never miss a beat.
Bertha Boykin lives life at full-throttle. In the spring of 2006, she started to feel fatigued; not quite herself. The specialists at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute diagnosed Bertha with congestive heart failure. Medication helped at first, but the disease quickly accelerated. Bertha needed a new heart.
As Bertha waited, each day became more challenging for her. Undaunted, Bertha continued to work full time and live her life as fully as possible. In October of 2008, she was put on the transplant list.
Bertha’s perseverance paid off. A matching heart arrived and her team of UH doctors performed the transplant. Today, Bertha has regained her energy and is ready to not just keep the pace, but to set it.
