Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
Many women are unaware that physical therapy can specifically address disorders of the pelvic floor. The goal of pelvic floor physical therapy is to alleviate symptoms by restoring awareness, mobility, and motor control of the pelvic floor muscles.
When you meet with your physical therapist for the first time, your medical history and symptoms will be reviewed. She will conduct an assessment of your posture, flexibility, strength, balance, and movement patterns. Your therapist may also perform an internal examination of the pelvic floor muscles, assessing for pain, tissue quality, sensation, and strength. She will then discuss her findings with you and recommend a course of treatment.
