Welcome to the surgical weight loss program at UH Geauga Medical Center. We are the only hospital in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties offering a surgical bariatric program!
The Center for Bariatric Surgery can help meet the need for effective, long-lasting weight loss for obese individuals when diet and exercise alone are not enough.
Obesity is a life-threatening and life-long, costly and progressive, multi-faceted disease of excess fat storage.
Bariatrics is the branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of obesity. This includes state-of-the-art surgical options which can be performed using minimally-invasive procedures:
- Gastric Bypass – a small pouch is created and attached to the bowel so food intake is decreased and the nutritional absorption rate is altered.
- Laparoscopic Gastric Band (Lap-Band®) – an adjustable silicone band is inserted around the top of the stomach so food intake is restricted in the small pouch that remains.
In addition to sustained weight loss, bariatric surgery has been shown to help reduce the risk of other health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea.
The Center for Bariatric Surgery provides a complete surgical weight loss program that has been designed for you to be successful at losing your excess weight, keeping it off long term and living a longer and healthier life.
