Q: How can I tell if my child has an injury?
A: Refer to the symptoms previously listed. Contact your pediatrician for a complete examination if your child has any of these or similar symptoms.

Q: What are the various names used for the conditions you treat?
A: Sprains, strains, fractures, overuse injuries, Osgood-Schlatter disease (inflammation of the growth plate just below the knee), tendonitis, ligament injuries, and concussions.

Q: Should I see an orthopedic surgeon for the problem?
A: While most sports injuries don’t require surgery, our staff works closely with the orthopedic surgeons of Rainbow Babies and can refer you if necessary.

Q: How should I treat a sports injury initially?
A: Rest from any activity causing pain. Ice the injured area 20 minutes at a time, protecting skin with a thin towel. Compress swelling with an ice wrap applied firmly but not tightly. Elevate any injured part above the level of the heart.
