What radiologists do

Radiologists help your pediatrician or specialist find out exactly what’s happening inside your child. We perform imaging examinations (see Procedures) to diagnose infection, trauma, cancer, and a host of other medical conditions. Think of us as consultants, working hand in hand with your doctor as key components in your child’s treatment.

Some tests can be difficult, for example, when we must insert an IV catheter or another device. If your child is frightened or nervous, we may recommend a safe, mild sedative to relax her. As some exams like MRI can take rather a long while for a child to hold still, we find gentle sedation can help here as well. A relaxed child is better able to cooperate with what must be done, and this allows us to perform our services more efficiently.
