Signs that your child should see a doctor

Any of these symptoms or conditions could indicate a serious underlying illness in your child. We recommend you schedule a visit with your pediatrician right away.

  • Recurring ear infections/earaches
  • Recurring tonsil and throat infections, in particular strep throat
  • Sleep apnea (see Terms and Definitions)
  • Drainage from ear
  • Any level of hearing loss
  • Swelling in the neck
  • Nasal and sinus infections that don’t respond to initial treatment
  • Unusual voice changes – lower or higher pitch, softer or louder, changes in tone
  • Troubled or painful swallowing
  • Troubled or painful breathing
  • Any kind of unusual pain in the head and neck region
