PEM fellows at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital have a variety of research opportunities during their fellowship. In the first year, with the guidance of the faculty, the fellows identify areas of interest based on the patients they encounter in the PED.
Throughout the second and third years, with the help of their research mentor and scholarly oversight committee, they progress through the research/scholarly process.
The fellows are encouraged to present their project to both their research committee as well as at a regional or national meeting, such as the Pediatric Academic Societies or the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine meetings in the Spring of their third year.
Current research projects in the PED include asthma, infectious disease and toxicology.
Support, mentoring and collaboration for projects in these and other areas is widely available within the Department of Pediatrics.
