PEM fellows in our program are integrated into the faculty meeting and attend each meeting and contribute to each program aspect, whether presenting a management case, reviewing a core topic or conducting an evidence-based journal review.
PEM Management Conference:
This conference involves presentation on and discussion of a timely topic relevant to the care of children in the emergency setting. Often case-based and review of the most current evidence-based literature.
PEM Fellows Core Topics Conference:
Review of topics from the core curriculum in PEM. An extensive list of core curriculum topics from the major Pediatric Emergency Medicine textbooks and American Board of Pediatrics provides the topics for this conference. Subspecialists are invited as indicated by the chosen topic.
Journal Club/Evidence-based Medicine Conference:
Evidence-based medicine concepts are taught and selected articles from relevant journals are discussed in detail. This conference includes subspecialists within University Hospitals when indicated by the chosen topic.
Morbidity and Mortality/Quality Improvement Conference:
Morbidity and mortality conference and Quality Improvement include review of all ED resuscitations, deaths and focused indicators.
PEM Division Administrative Meeting:
Meeting where administrative issues relevant to the PED and the Division are discussed.
Journal Watch:
Conducted by the fellows as a review of current literature related to the field of PEM and relayed to individuals working in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
Rainbow Fellows Conference:
Monthly conference on topics related to systems-based practice for all Rainbow pediatric fellows. Topics to include cost-effective practice, health care financing, approach to medical error, grant writing, career planning and other topics of interest to academic oriented fellows.
Many other conferences available to fellows as one of the benefits of being incorporated into a large academic medical center which is the primary teaching site for Case Medical School.
