University Hospitals remains committed to the health of Northeast Ohioans. One way we accomplish this is by providing wide-ranging community benefit programs that enhance communities throughout the region. For the year 2008, the value of these programs has been calculated at $210 million.

A Heritage of Caring

"Just six months after the end of the Civil War, a small group of prominent Clevelanders met in a room in the city's courthouse to discuss the possibility of creating a new hospital, a facility to which all citizens, especially the poorest, could come for care and treatment of illness or injury."

Our community benefit efforts include extensive education programs that train medical professionals and ensure that they will be available to serve future generations. We support and encourage brilliant medical researchers in their work so that health care continues to improve for us all. We provide a significant amount of charity care for those who cannot afford medical care. We also conduct a variety of programs in the community that help keep people healthy or encourage them to get needed health care.
