The Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) is located in the basement of the Humphrey Building, adjacent to the adult Emergency Department. The PED is staffed by pediatric emergency physicians & nurse specialists. A full complement of pediatric medical & surgical consultative services is available 24 hours per day. The PED is equipped specifically for the emergency care of ill & injured children.

The Rainbow Pediatric Trauma Center provides state-of-the-art care for critically injured children from the time of injury through rehabilitation. The Pediatric Trauma Center has northeast Ohios only Regional Pediatric Trauma Team, which responds to the trauma room to treat children with the potential for life-threatening injuries 24 hours per day.

This service provides faster care for patients with non-emergent problems, including minor illnesses and injuries. Patients who present to the Emergency Department are initially assessed by the triage nurse and then, if appropriate, seen in Rainbow RapidCare directly adjacent to the Emergency Department. Patients are seen by Rainbow Pediatricians.
