The Rainbow Sickle Cell Anemia Center is actively involved in many community-based activities. On-going cooperation between the Center and community physicians, organizations and employers promotes education and advocacy throughout the region. The Center works cooperatively with the American Sickle Cell Anemia Association to ensure that the educational, counseling and support needs of families are addressed.
Experienced pediatric hematologists, all members of the Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital, provide physician support. A pediatric nurse practitioner coordinates team efforts to ensure comprehensive, quality care. The team also includes a social worker, as well as several nurses. In addition, the Center has established liaisons with health educators, genetic counselors and clinical psychologists, who provide services as needed.
