The Adoption Health Service also offers Pre-Adoption Parenting Classes for families who are adopting internationally. Classes are designed to provide prospective parents with a sound fund of knowledge and preparation for the adoption process and post-adoptive period.

These classes are sponsored and coordinated by the Adoption Health Service


They consist of 16 hours of instruction for families in four meetings. Topics include medical, behavioral and developmental issues of post-institutionalized children, attachment and bonding, culturally competent parenting, well childcare and child safety, early intervention services, adoption support groups, etc. Each class also includes a family who has completed their adoption process and who will share their experience.

The classes are offered three times a year and are held at the University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Lindsey Houlihan, MSSA, LISW will facilitate the classes.
