Each step along the way – from the moment the pregnancy is confirmed through the sound of the baby's first cry – brings parents closer to a new and thrilling life together.
At times – whether it's because of a mother's new or existing condition or a complication with the unborn baby – a woman and her child will be considered "at high risk." This means that special attention must be paid throughout the pregnancy to both mother and baby to ensure a safe delivery.
The Maternal-Fetal Department at UH MacDonald Women's Hospital specializes in high-risk pregnancies, and takes advantage of the latest treatments and technology to ensure the health of mother and baby.
About 900 women a year are referred to our Maternal-Fetal Department to receive state-of-the-art care.
