Joins an elite list of only 152 hospitals nationwide
CLEVELAND – University Hospitals Case Medical Center is once again ranked prominently among the top hospitals in the country in seven specialties in U.S. News & World Report’s latest hospital rankings.
The hospital joins an elite group of only 152 hospitals – just three percent – out of nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide to be named in U.S. News & World Report's 2010-11 Best Hospitals. Of special note is the addition of two UH specialties – Gynecology and Ear, Nose & Throat – in this year’s rankings, and the improved ranking of three specialties—Geriatrics, Gastroenterology and Cancer.
University Hospitals Case Medical Center ranked in top 50 hospitals in the following categories: Orthopaedics (21), Gatroenterology (28), Geriatrics (28), Cancer (34), Ear, Nose & Throat (37), Pulmonology (42) and Gynecology (48).
The magazine will also include a best children’s hospital section in which UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is ranked in seven of 10 specialties and its neonatal care as # 4 in the nation. These “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” rankings were published online last month by U.S. News.
Now in its 21st year, the multi-platform 2010-2011 Best Hospitals guide is the most extensive hospital ranking to date. The Best Hospitals rankings will be online at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow www.usnews.com/besthospitals and featured in the August print issue, available on newsstands July 27.
The rankings were driven by hard data such as death rates, procedure volume, and balance of nurses and patients. Only large teaching hospitals with complex medical technology are eligible for consideration.
“When the stakes are high, you want the best care you can get for yourself or someone close to you,” said Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “These hospitals are accustomed to seeing the sickest patients day in and day out.”
