CLEVELAND -- University Hospitals of Cleveland (UHC) has earned the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) prestigious Magnet Recognition for Excellence in Nursing Services. ANCC, the nation’s leading nursing credentialing organization, recognizes only 180 institutions nationwide.
"We are honored once again to be recognized out of thousands of institutions nationally," says
Ron Dziedzicki, RN, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at UHC. "This designation reconfirms that we have been able to sustain a culture and environment supportive of nursing and quality of patient care. A key reason for our high quality of care is our nursing staff, which demonstrates selfless service to their patients and the profession of nursing."
The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the ANCC to recognize healthcare organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and uphold the tradition within nursing of professional nursing practice. UHC was one of the original 41 hospitals to be recognized as a Magnet facility during the original Magnet study.
ANCC’s Magnet status is a process whereby a team of professionals with experience in quality indicators, nursing administration, and nursing care appraises a hospital’s nursing services, clinical outcomes, and patient care delivery as defined in the Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators and outlined by the Congress of Nursing Practice of the American Nurses Association (ANA). The appraisers not only review traditional "nurse-sensitive" indicators, but also conduct extensive interviews that help evaluate the management philosophy and advocacy practices of the Chief Nurse Executive with respect to the patient, family, community, and nursing services.
"Throughout our 140 year history, University Hospitals of Cleveland has been recognized as a leader in healthcare, much to the credit of the quality care delivered by our nurses," says
Fred C. Rothstein, MD, President and CEO of UHC. "This award reflects the dedication and commitment our staff makes every day to ensure that quality patient care is our highest priority."
