CLEVELAND – University Hospitals has announced the appointment of Michael A. Szubski as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of University Hospitals. Following an extensive national search, Mr. Szubski, who was Chief Operating Office for University Hospitals Acute Care Hospitals, was selected for this significant position.
As CFO of University Hospitals, Mr. Szubski will oversee the hospital system’s strategic financial plan. He will also play a key role in the implementation of UH’s Vision 2010 strategic plan, a five-year, $1.2 billion investment in the future of health care in Northeast Ohio. Its construction-related projects include the UH Ahuja Medical Center, the UH Cancer Hospital, the Quentin & Elisabeth Alexander Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, and the Center for Emergency Medicine at UH Case Medical Center. Vision 2010 also includes implementing a new state-of-the-art Electronic Medical Record.

Mr. Szubski is a talented, results-oriented health care leader with extensive experience in financial and operational management. In his former position as Chief Operating Officer for UH Acute Care Hospitals, a role in which he was responsible for all medical and surgical services and general operations of the six wholly-owned acute care hospitals in the University Hospitals system, including UH Case Medical Center.
Mr. Szubski joined UH Case Medical Center in 2003 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to coming to UH, he held management positions at EMH Regional Healthcare System; United HealthCare of Ohio, Inc.; and the Mt. Sinai Health System in Cleveland.
Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and political science from Baldwin-Wallace College and his MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He resides in Broadview Heights, OH.
