CLEVELAND – During this season of giving, Thomas F. Zenty III, Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals, is taking time to give back to the health system he has led over the past five years. Mr. Zenty announced a personal gift commitment of $1 million in support of University Hospitals Vision 2010 strategic plan. This generous gift, made in honor of his parents, Edna and Thomas F. Zenty, Jr., will establish two endowed funds in support of University Hospitals and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
“Growing up in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, I learned the value of hard work from an early age. My parents instilled in me a strong work ethic and a sense of social responsibility that guide me today,” said Mr. Zenty. “They have influenced and inspired me at every point in my life and I am pleased to make this contribution to University Hospitals in their honor.”
By establishing the Thomas and Edna Zenty Endowed Funds at UH and Rainbow, Mr. Zenty underscores his lifelong commitment to and passion for health care. Mr. Zenty’s gift commitment is an investment in both the mission and vision of University Hospitals. Throughout his career as a hospital administrator, Mr. Zenty has seen the immediate and direct impact that access to high quality health care can have on humanity.
“My father had an extensive stay at University Hospitals a few years ago and I was able to witness first hand the compassion and expertise of our clinical staff at UH,” said Mr. Zenty. “My gift is also a sign of my gratitude to all of the dedicated physicians, employees, researchers and volunteers who are committed to caring for those who come to us in their time of need. I honor my colleagues’ unparalleled dedication to our mission: To Heal. To Teach. To Discover.”
“This gift represents Tom’s deep commitment to University Hospitals and Northeast Ohio,” said Monte Ahuja, Chairman of the UH Board of Directors. “I join my Board colleagues in applauding Tom for this generous contribution as well as his dynamic leadership of our health system. He has led UH through a remarkable transformation and we look forward to his continued leadership.”
Since joining University Hospitals in 2003 as CEO, Mr. Zenty has engaged our community, boards of directors, physicians and employees around the health system’s bold strategic plan, Vision 2010. This $1.2 billion plan includes building the UH Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, a new Cancer Hospital and Center for Emergency Medicine at UH Case Medical Center, the Quentin and Elisabeth Alexander Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Rainbow and a clinician and patient-centered Electronic Medical Record system.
“Tom is very passionate about University Hospitals, health care and his family, and this gift truly demonstrates this passion,” said Sheldon G. Adelman, Chairman of the UH Board Development Committee. “This is his way of showing his long-term commitment to UH and the future of health care in our community.”
A native of Jermyn, PA, Mr. Zenty received his B.S. degree in Health Planning Administration from Pennsylvania State University. He earned a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Xavier University and a Master’s in Public Administration from New York University. Prior to joining UH, he was Executive Vice President at Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles.
